WHAT IS IPL USED FOR?
IPL is used to treat common aesthetic concerns such as acne, pigmentation, sun damage, facial thread veins and rosacea.  Skin rejuvenation treatment leads to an increased production of new collagen and elastin. This improves the texture of the skin and evens out lumps and bumps while reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
IPL works by placing the laser on the skin where precisely controlled short pulses of light are released targeting the a section of the desired area at a time. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.

Most people describe the sensation as practically pain-free and while tolerance of pain is very individual, no anaesthetics are required.

AM I SUITABLE FOR TREATMENT?
Most people are suitable for treatment but at your initial consultation we will ascertain the best course of action for you and perform a patch test.

It is important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium or self-tanning products) before and during the treatment period.

It is also a good idea to avoid smoking in the 4 hours prior to treatment.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
The skin may be red and slightly swollen after treatment but this usually subsides quickly. Very rarely, a small blister may form and there can be a temporary lightening or darkening of the skin. However most people experience no side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours.

Generally, no special care is necessary after treatment, but people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying a cold compress (a cold damp cloth) to the face immediately after treatment.

After treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for 30 days, even if there is no sign of inflammation in the treated area and use sun protection (minimum SPF 30).

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY?
The required number of treatments varies, but typically 6 treatments are needed for optimum results. Treatment times vary depending on the area and reason for treatment but they are normally between 20 – 45mins.
